BBR Reopens to Walk-in Customers May 26, with Limited Capacity and Modified Hours

Both the Co-op and the Reuse Center at Boston Building Resources will reopen to walk-in customers on May 26 after being closed to regular foot traffic for two months due to the covid-19 pandemic. BBR has made some changes to hours, capacity, and policies in order to keep customers and staff safe while at our site.

At both stores, hours will be 8:30-4:30 weekdays and 9:30-3:00 on Saturday. Opening a half hour later will give our staff time to sanitize and prepare the space. All customers are asked to wear masks and to maintain six feet of space between themselves and others. BBR will have hand sanitizer available, and customers are asked to clean their hands when entering. The number of people in the store at any given time will be limited, so some customers may need to wait outside if the store is at capacity. Restrooms will not be available for customer use.

Online and telephone orders from the Co-op are still encouraged so that customers can purchase items without having to enter the store. After placing an order, customers can come to pick it up, and staff will bring the items out to the loading dock. Reuse Center items listed on Craigslist can also be purchased over the phone and then picked up at a scheduled time.

In addition, several other policy changes affect shopping at the Reuse Center. These are due not only to covid-19, but also to preparations for the imminent renovation of the building.

  • Automatic markdowns are no longer being taken.

  • Donations of materials must be scheduled; walk-in donations are not being accepted.

  • Shopping time will be limited to 30 minutes, and customers must sign in and out so the store does not exceed a safe capacity.

  • Children and pets are not allowed in the building.

  • Due to the small size of the sales office, customers will not be able to enter that space.

We are grateful for all the customers who choose our member-owned Co-op and nonprofit Reuse Center. With your continued support, we will survive and thrive to provide our community with the building materials and knowledge to inspire, educate, and empower homeowners to increase the efficiency and value of their homes.
