Kitchen Designer (Cabinetry)
Boston Building Resources, a consumer co-op, is seeking a full-time kitchen designer to be part of our small but mighty design team. As a member-owned co-op established in 1978, BBR focuses on providing attractive and functional kitchens and excellent service to our members. The successful candidate will help advance our priorities of educating customers so they can make the product choices that are best for them, and providing expertise in environmentally friendly options for cabinetry. Our customers appreciate our attention to both efficiency and aesthetics, personalized designs tailored to each client, smart use of small spaces, thorough explanations, and attention to detail. Over the years, BBR has built a solid reputation for kitchen design and cabinet and counter sales, which leads to many referrals, repeat customers, and low staff turnover.
The successful candidate will meet with customers (homeowners, architects, and builders) to assess needs, create designs, work up pricing, complete sales, place orders, and communicate with independent contractors working on the job. It includes occasional site visits and teaching workshops on kitchen design several times per year. You may also be called upon to help with other retail duties in our small store. You will enjoy a friendly work environment and diverse clientele.
Hours are Tuesday through Friday 8:00-4:30 and Saturday 9:00-3:00.
- Minimum two years of experience in kitchen design
- Proficiency in 20/20 software
- A working or advanced knowledge of residential construction techniques and building materials
- Excellent organizational and communications skills
Position is salaried (no commission). Benefits include health insurance and paid vacation and sick time.
Donations Truck Driver
Boston Building Resources is seeking a full-time driver to pick up donated items for our Reuse Center. This person will be part of a two-person team that drives the BBR truck and/or van to pick up used and surplus building materials throughout eastern Massachusetts. The person in this key position represents our organization both while driving on the road and also to the homeowners and contractors at each location who are donating materials such as cabinet sets, appliances, windows, and doors.
The successful candidate will interact politely with a wide variety of people each day, speaking clearly about the company and its mission and answering questions. You will be helping the environment by keeping reusable materials out of landfills as well as helping people in the community obtain affordable materials to keep their homes in good repair. Candidates who like to learn will find opportunities to increase their knowledge about building materials and about the workings of a successful small business.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 to 3:00.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Experience driving a 16-foot box truck
- Demonstrated history of reliability
- Physically fit; ability to lift at least 50 to 100lbs. from varying positions on a regular basis
- Ability to sit in a vehicle for long periods
- Construction and building materials knowledge a plus
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus
- Ability to work as a team player
